My love for old houses started at a young age. My parent’s first home was a Korman built 1940s row in Northeast Philadelphia. For such a modest home, it was incredibly well built, with architectural details fascinated me. While studying for my undergrad at Arcadia University, I was lucky enough to live in Grey Towers Castle designed by Horace Trumbauer. As a student, I was also a member of the Society for Castle Restoration. One of the triumphs during my time there was uncovering the original ceiling in the (now) women’s hall bathroom. The knowledge I gained is immeasurable.
The first home I purchased was a 1915 rowhouse in Lansdale. Originally built for workers at the nearby silk stocking factory, I undid years of mismatched upgrades, and restored the home to nearly original condition. I was fortunate to purchase from the second owners, who purchased the property as newlyweds 50 years earlier from its original owner.
The next home I purchased was a Mid Century ranch. This time, I purchased the home from the very first owner, who bought it at age 26 after getting a “big promotion” at work. Overflowing with 60s charm, this rambler was one of the model homes for the neighborhood, and features a ton of swanky upgrades like a whole home Hi-Fi, a double garage, and an additional sunken living room. After five years of ownership, I finally finished restoring the interior. The next challenge, I mean “project”, will be the exterior and landscaping.
I’ve had the pleasure of representing buyers purchasing historic homes. Our team of inspectors and lenders know how to navigate the purchase of an older home. I’ve also listed and sold historic homes, with the crown jewel being Horace Trumbauer’s “Heyghton” in Cheltenham.
Whether it’s uncovering hidden architectural gems, guiding clients through the quirks of historic homeownership, or restoring properties to their original glory, my passion for preserving the past is at the heart of everything I do. With hands-on experience and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, I help buyers and sellers navigate the unique joys (and challenges) of older homes. Every house has a story, and I love being part of the next chapter!
