Well, hello there! I’m back with another Friday Fixer-Upper, and this week I’ve set my sights on this little miss in Laurel, Mississippi. Isn’t she a cutie? And she’s selling for just $22,500!
Here she is back in the day!
After the longest winter EVER in the Northeast, the thought of a nice after-work stroll through historic downtown Laurel from my century-old Queen Anne sounds mighty fine indeed. Did I mention the house is part of the Laurel Central National Register Historic District? And just three blocks away from the house is the Lauren Rogers Museum with a pretty impressive collection, including my favorite: 65 major objects associated with the serving of tea. Amazing!
The turn-of-the-20th-century timber industry contributed a great deal to Laurel’s growth – it’s part of the “Pine Belt” – and I’d love to think today’s fixer-upper showcases some beautiful local woods. It certainly still has its wood clapboard siding and diamond-shaped shingles at the gable peak. The decorative wood brackets add a nice touch too. Oh, to have a house with a porch! A friend from Mississippi recently introduced me to pepper jelly over cream cheese with crackers, so that’s exactly what I’m envisioning I’d be snacking on here.
The house features lots of big windows too. Perfect for some natural light to stream right through.
You may have picked up on a pattern of mine, but I can’t get enough of homes with secret nooks! Aren’t they special? From the bench seat of this attic perch I could dream the day away. What would you use it for?
Here are a couple of great old staircases in the house. I’ve always loved the look of stained wood treads with off-white painted risers and balusters. Such a simple and elegant touch. I’m also drawn to the quirky steps that lead to the attic. It almost feels like a staircase waterfall to me!
No good fixer-upper would be complete without some vintage chandeliers. So intricate!
