Mike has extensive experience in working with homeowners, sellers and buyers of vintage, mid-century modern and historic homes. Gainesville and Alachua County has a wonderful history of preserving their heritage through multiple historic districts including the historic campus of the University of Florida and the mid-century modern campuses of Santa Fe College. Mike is a founding member of Gainesville Modern, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Gainesville’s modern architectural past and promoting its future through education, advocacy and awareness.
The University of Florida became the epicenter of the modern architectural movement of the late 1940’s through the mid-century in Florida. Architects lectured, taught and designed on the national level many buildings and residences throughout the area including Frank Lloyd Wright, Paul Rudolph, Alfred Parker, Dan Branch, Gene Leedy, Bob Broward, Harry Merritt and Russell Pancoast to name just a few.
But Gainesville isn’t the only gem in Alachua County, Micanopy is a wonderfully well preserved city and the second oldest in the State of Florida after nearby St. Augustine. High Springs was a railroad town and today is a designated Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places with over 217 historic buildings.
