Built in 1913 as the Wakonda State Bank and operating as a bank under various names until 1961 when converted into the Wakonda Public Library, and ultimately private businesses after 2006. The building represents early 20th Century American Commercial with Colonial Revival style architecture with brown and orange brick with limestone base, Doric columns, sills and facade elements. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Interior is 840 sf of finished space, sitting on a 25’ x 140’ lot with alley access. The currently covered ceiling is made of pressed tin and contains a skylight. The basement contains a small vault room with original door still in place.
The town of Wakonda is 58 miles from Sioux Falls Regional Airport, 22 miles to University of South Dakota in Vermillion, and 23 miles to Yankton SD and nearby Gavins Point Dam/Lewis and Clark Lake and Recreation Area.
