About This Old House

It’s very rare to find a charming Woodstock artist’s home with substantial acreage, within 1 mile of the Village Center. This stone beauty, 100 years old, sits well back from the road, with an expandable view of Overlook Mountain, sitting above the ever-flowing creek in the front yard. There is a separate, barely seen from the house, artist’s cottage with large North light window, access by a separate driveway at 2075 Glasco. It has been used as a dwelling unit for many years and features a spacious main room, small kitchen and bath, plus a sleeping area near the entry. It could use refinishing of its siding, and is heated with a through-the-wall propane heater which works nicely. (See the photos of the room which formerly contained a grand piano.) Additionally, there is a charming painter’s cottage with stone fireplace tucked nicely away from the two larger buildings, in the woods. It needs some attention, but has incredible potential. There are also several other small out buildings, including a room garage with large storage level above. The entire property represents permanently protected lands under a conservation agreement with the Woodstock Land Conservancy, Inc. and cannot be further developed or divided. (see associated docs for full easement and limited added buildings) There are thus some advantages to the taxes accordingly. (see associated docs) This property is on the market for the first time in many decades and was once the home of Illustrator and Fine Seascape Artist, Anton Otto Fischer and his wife Mary Ellen Sigsbee, who was a political cartoonist who work alongside some great suffragettes of the day. Mary Ellen “May” and her daughter “Winkie” hand painted the lovely animal motifs along the dining room beams on the ceiling. PLEASE NOTE; though heated for Winter 2019, the house and cottage plumbing systems have been WINTERIZED AND CANNOT BE USED. This has been done as a precaution. We will have a letter from Lowe Plumbing which verifies that the systems were fully functional and in good condition as of late December 2018, prior to their winterizing the systems with non-toxic antifreeze throughout.
