The Hans Mo House

110 Burnside St SW, Sleepy Eye, MN 56085, USA

Offered for sale for the first time in 55 years, the Hans Mo House is a lovely Queen Anne Victorian home built in 1895 waiting for it’s next owner to love it as much as the current family has over the years.

A beautiful staircase, original fireplace, gorgeous inlay hardwood floors, and pocket doors are just some of the lovely features in this historic home. The main floor has a bedroom with newly remodeled full bath, formal dining room, large living room, and separate parlor/study. The second floor retains the layout of two rental units, which for those looking to return the space back to single family living, the central hallway could easily be reopened. Or, if you are looking for an income producing property, this home would be perfect as three units.

Additional finished square footage could be created from the large unfinished attic space.

History of the Original Owner

Hans Mo immigrated from Norway to Minnesota in 1872 at 22 years of age, working for the railroads and as a clerk in a local mercantile. He served as the town’s postmaster for four years until he decided to clerk for the State Bank of Sleepy Eye. Ever an astute businessman, he bought a 1/3 interest in the bank in 1888, and eventually served as the bank’s President. He was highly regarded for his attention to the social and culture development of Sleepy Eye, and cared greatly for education, serving on the school board for 20 years. Hans was also a life time member of the Minnesota State Horticultural Society. He lived in the home until 1937, when it was lost to foreclosure.
