HISTORY

This stunner was built in 1733 by Jonathan Griffen, grandson of Madison Monroe’s vice president and governor of New York, Daniel Tompkins. It was also used during the Revolutionary War Battle of White Plains as a headquarters under the leadership of British General William Howe. Scarsdale’s first town meeting was held here in 1783.

The Holland Family purchased the home in 1973. Mr. James F. Holland was a founding father of Chemotherapy who helped pioneer a lifesaving treatment for leukemia. Mrs. Holland was the first female head of a clinical department at Memorial Sloan Kettering. They resided in the home until their 2018 passing. Now, you can continue the rich story of this home!
