This 18th-century house is referred to as “the old dwelling-house owned by Isaac Sherwood, late the residence of Ebenezer Sherwood, deceased” in an Act creating the New Milford & Sherman Turnpike Road in May 1811. The toll gate in Sherman was to be “at or near” this house. Ebenezer Sherwood died in 1811 and upon the death of his widow, Joanna, in 1814 the house passed to their son and only heir, Isaac Sherwood.
