Stonehurst Place has sat atop its stately perch in Midtown’s historic Garden District since 1896, maintaining its place as one of the most architecturally significant and well-preserved homes in Atlanta and arguably the most acclaimed B&B in the South.
Originally built by the beloved Hinman family, Stonehurst remained in their stewardship for 100+ years. In 2007, visionary new owners lovingly embarked upon a dramatic 17-month renovation in partnership with some of the most renowned experts in design and preservation. Delivering a truly remarkable guest experience at every turn was the inspiration behind each design decision and Stonehurst Place was fully reimagined with forward-thinking sustainable elements and an unparalleled level of bespoke finishes for a property of its kind.
The estate’s period detailing was meticulously preserved yet infused with modern day amenities like heated marble floors and towel warmers in each bath elevating the landmark property and its acclaimed guest experience to the highest level of industry standards both technologically and ecologically.
The diligent and attentive onsite inn-keepers and staff cater to each patrons’ individual needs while infusing the Stonehurst Place experience at every opportunity, from the daily 3-course breakfast served on Stonehurst’s original china to serving up freshly squeezed lemonade for on the quintessential summer screened porch. It is this fusion of client-centric design and award-winning guest experiences that have earned Stonehurst Place the elusive and prestigious 4-Diamond property rating from AAA and the highest guest rating among any hotel in Atlanta according to Expedia.com
Encompassing an awe-inspiring .64 acres (Midtown’s largest residential plot) Stonehurst’s three detached buildings are seamlessly connected by impeccably manicured lawns and highly curated parterre gardens. Trained in England as an interior and garden designer, the owner’s distinctive aesthetic is evident from the outside in. And it standard for Stonehurst’s guests to be delighted by freshly picked floral arrangements sourced from these gardens.
Guests are warmly welcomed to the property by gracious steps, grapevine mortar side walls and meandering pathways of granite mined locally from the famed Bellwood Quarry (now the centerpiece of the Westside Park) and can often be found relaxing on the idyllic front rocking porch is with stately gas lanterns overlooking one of the most spectacular skyline views Midtown has to offer.
Inside guests are greeted in the Grand Foyer, anchored by an original fireplace with some of the finest terracotta detailing seen. Just off the Foyer the Music Room serves as the heart of the home and a wonderful gathering place with its massive original, restored leaded glass windows overlooking Midtown and the Corinthian-capped columns framing a hand-carved inglenook fireplace.
