About This Old House

Never before offered to the public and steeped in NV history, St. Augustines was the oldest standing Catholic Church in Nevada, dedicated Christmas Eve 1866 and was the second oldest church in NV. Its stately aura is compelling and dominates the town with a strong historic appearance. The wood and tin-clad spire rises 75′ making the structure seem very tall with its Gothic Revival style. Built on solid granite, both the bricks and granite were from local quarries. In the late 1930s 14 murals were painted on the interior walls (24ft ceilings) by Tahoe artist Raphael Jolly and remain largely intact and untouched. The original bell is intact and operable along with pews, woodstove and many many other items. The gem of building is the only known Henry Kilgen 9 rank pipe organ fully restored and only one other Kilgen organ is known to have survived time. Although it does not need to operate as such the St. Augustines Cultural Center (SACC) is currently an events/cultural center for central Nevada and the community of Austin and a keystone to support historic tourism. IThe upper floor must be open to the public a certain number of days a year. The building was saved from collapse and has had much work performed and money invested (1000s of thousands of dollars in grants) to restore, preserve and stabilize the structure. The lower floor is all new. There is an ada lift to reach the lower level from the church services level which has two ada restrooms, large conference/meeting room and full kitchen with pantry as well as street access to Court Street. Call today to get more information on this incredible opportunity. The building is currently is a 501C3 and board approval will be required for any purchase agreements and documents. 3 NV licensees sit on the 501c3 Board of Directors.
