Sam Davis Historic District Queen Anne Charmer

200 S Sam Davis Ave, Pulaski, TN 38478, USA
$229,900

Description

200 S Sam Davis Avenue is described as a Queen Anne influenced home on the National Register of Historical Places. Two stories with more than 3400 square feet, 4/5 bedrooms, 2 baths. Three porches plus an open garage, detached screen room and storage shed. It is more than a half acre property that is a convenient 45 minutes to Huntsville, AL and an hour to Nashville TN, but best of all only a couple of blocks from Pulaski’s town square. It is in a very desirable neighborhood and is surrounded by several other historical properties in this historic district.
This home is rich in unique features and charm! There is old newspaper found glued to a wall (under old wall paper) that dates back to 1893. We left some of the newspaper exposed in a dining closet. The high 12’ ceilings give the downstairs rooms a grandeur that adds to all of the historical features, with the original wood floors, chunky trim work, glass door knobs, and wavey glass windows. Three fireplace mantels decorate coal burning fireplaces. Two of those also have wonderful cast iron covers. There is original bead board in the laundry room and pantry, both rooms are quite spacious for their purposes! It’s hard to take it all in on just one visit!
Because the house has only been owned by a few families there is still a wonderful amount of original and vintage character throughout this home. The kitchen features the original metal cabinets, gorgeous windows and a corner of the kitchen still has a vintage top loading dishwasher that isn’t functioning but still serves as countertop space and a neat conversation piece.
On the south back porch you will find the cistern where rain water was stored and drawn before indoor plumbing came into play.
The back yard has a concrete shuffleboard that could be restored. Rock benches are used as seating around the shuffleboard and were once the curbs on the street of Sam Davis Avenue before the roads were paved way back in the day. There had to be lots of bbq party’s here and it is still a great place to host your own get together with lots of rock wall seating and built in rock bbq! The back yard feels secluded, private and has lots of shade and perennial flowers and plants to refresh your soul in the spring especially! You would have to come see it to fully appreciate it.
There are a few hints of Texaco history mixed into this property also as a Texaco dealer owned this home for more than half a century before the current owners. The small town feel of being close to our town square really comes through as you hear the courthouse clock chime at the top of every hour and church bells in the distance on Sundays. The mail is still delivered to the mailbox on the front porch.
The cost of living and taxes are lower in this quaint small town compared to bigger cities! Utility bills prove the home to be very efficient. Updated wiring, plumbing, and insulation have been done in recent years. The house is completely livable as it is. It is described on the National Registry as a weatherboard frame, cross gable plan, asphalt cross gable roof, hip roof porch supported by tapered wooden posts on stone piers, stone foundation and corbeled chimney.
Next door on the north side of the property is an amazing museum that sits on a lush landscaped courtyard. It is the smallest free standing museum in the state of Tennessee and contains artifacts from the civil war, a lot of them found right in this neighborhood as well as some items that have been donated by the Sam Davis family.
If any of these features sound as amazing to you as they have been for us, you certainly must come visit and see if you would like to be the next family to grace this beautiful home and become a part of it’s rich history!
