This historic brick craftsman bungalow was built in 1921 by Emmanuel W. Coons for himself and his small family. EW worked in a furniture store building furniture, worked his way into the history producing iron ore mines on the Mesabi Iron Range. He started at the bottom and worked his way up. A little backstory, prior to production trucks or trucks of any size, railway lines were built into the depths of the pits to bring the ore to the plant for processing. This took a lot of time and tracks. EW’s idea was to stop bring the trains to the pits and instead use large production trucks that can drive down into the pits to bring back the ore. This was a very award winning idea. EW moved up in the mines and then started his own company laying the sewer lines and streets in a lot of towns from Hibbing, MN to north western Minnesota.
EW built this home on a large corner lot. He truly appreciated the craftsman style as this home for being 100-years-old is very STURDY. The home features poured foundation walls, brick exterior, dormers are steel sided, quarter sawn red oak main floors and maple wood floors on the upper floor (both recently refinished.) The wood work on the fireplace mantle is exquisite. Glass door knobs and skeleton keys are still in their place as well as the original baseboard, leaded glass windows on the built ins, the front door is the original solid wood, multiple glass pained door, we had the door knob and lock brought back to it’s original function. The front of the home features my favorite summer feature, a covered, 2 sided porch you can enjoy every day it is warm enough as it will keep you dry. I’ve been caught reading a book with a blanket in the fall on the porch. About 15-years-ago, the previous owners to us, updated the kitchen to a gorgeous updated craftsman kitchen with custom craftsman cabinets, high end appliances, granite counters and backsplash, tons of lighting and lots of space. The kitchen, back entry, and main floor bathroom all also were installed with ceramic tile heated floors. The main floor bath was re-done at this time too with a custom craftsman vanity, granite counter, and porcelain sink, a large tiled walk-in shower. This home features main floor living at it’s best, if it’s just you, with plenty of room for friends and family to stay.
