Historic 1903 Bank Building

409 Love Point Road Stevensville, MD 21666
$390,000

Description

Location: Historic 1903 Bank Building on the National Register of Historic Places. Original fixtures still in place, including the vault & safe. Located in the Stevensville Arts & Entertainment District. Situated next to the Amalfi Coast Italian Wine Bar. Located 3 miles from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, 35 miles SE from BWI Airport, 44 miles SE from Baltimore, and 43 miles east of Washington, DC.

Building: 740+/- square feet of building (37’ x 20’) with two (2) half baths & high tin ceilings on 2,725+/- square feet of land with two (2) parking spaces on site. Commercial Zoned Village Commercial VC. The building faces the street on the west side of Love Point Road near the center of Stevensville, MD. The building faces the street, with the plain rectangular shed roof structure disguised by an elaborate false front on the east (street) facade and is divide into three bays by four pilasters. In center bay to either side of the door are single 1/1 windows with molded surrounds and pedimented hoods supported by scrolled brackets, A second story is suggested by a large triple window above the door and small four-light windows with crossetted surrounds in the flanking bays. The cornice consists of broad band stucco serving as a fascia, with a modest molding below, and an ornate architrave above. It features the original ornamental pressed-tin ceiling. It is the oldest bank building on Kent Island and among the earliest surviving banks in the country. The vault is located in the renter at the rear of the front room and is surrounded by a U-shaped counter with tellers’ windows. The walls of this room are decorated with narrow headed wainscot paneling below a plain chair rail. The Stevensville Bank is significant for its architecture and for its role in the commerce of Kent Island and Queen Anne’s County. The unknown designer combined a variety of classic architectural details into an ordered composition that brings to mind the more formal Beaux Arts bank designs of its period. Although no longer serving as a bank, the building has been carefully maintained. The original interior is virtually untouched, leaving the tellers’ counter and vault intact – all of which convey. *Wood stove and cash register do NOT convey.*
