In the coastal town of Scituate Massachusetts. a gracious historic home, located at 29 First Parish Road, has become available for purchase. This home has been owned by the same family since 1905. It is in a spectacular location to beautiful Scituate Harbor, restaurants, shops, our famous lighthouse and the beach, of course! The original house dates back to 1740 and was beautifully expanded upon by 1814. The owners’ roots go back to the 17th century Men of Kent . In the 1800’s, an Irish immigrant Michael Welch settled in Scituate and his son E. Parker Welch and his son George F. Welch founded the Welch Company on Front Street. In 1905. George’s daughter, Marian Welch married the Scituate Town Doctor, Thomas Branch Alexander. As a wedding gift, George gave them the house on 29 First Parish Road. He also built beautiful homes on Third Cliff, and this home reflects the quality and luxury of the many fine homes Michael Welch and his company built. The home also served as Dr. Alexander’s medical office and over the years the couple hosted numerous family reunions and celebratory events. Their two daughters,
Hattie and Frances were born in the home, attended school in the little school across the street , which was later converted into the senior center, where they also attended in later years. When Frances married Dr. Harald N Johnson, Harvard School of Medicine, he was asked to set up the National Virus Lab in Pune India. Frances and Harold moved their four children and the Steinway grand piano over to India for a period of time where they all enjoyed a fascinating venture. (Note, the baby grand piano returned home safely and proudly sits in one of the home’s lovely sitting rooms.) In 2006, Dr. Michael M. Johnson, physician and instructor on the Faculty of Harvard Medical School and one of their four children, purchased the home so that he
and his siblings and extended family members would continue to enjoy wonderful family gatherings and together share a lifetime of great memories. Now it is time to step inside and experience for yourself!
