About MargaretMcCutcheonFaber

Historic buildings are my passion! I grew up in a Greek Revival home located within the Middle Haddam Historic District, parts of which are listed on the National Register as significant to the first 150 years of our nation’s maritime history (period of significance 1730’s-1880’s). After attending Connecticut College and graduating with a B.A. from New York University’s Gallatin School I attended the University of Oxford, where I earned my Masters and Doctoral degrees in Cultural Anthropology. My focus was the built environment and cultural landscape of the Rova, a royal palace complex in Ambohimanga, Madagascar, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Following Oxford my husband and I settled back in Middle Haddam, where we own and operate Classic Africa, specializing in bespoke safaris to southern and East Africa. I became an active member of our town’s historical society and lead walking tours regularly. I have also served on Connecticut’s Historic Preservation Council from 2011-Present and am a member of Preservation Connecticut. As a preservationist my primary interest is in preventing the unreasonable destruction of resources listed on the National Register of Historic Places and am currently involved with rehabilitating the c.1930 Middle Haddam School, by writing the application to list it individually on the National Register of Historic Places and writing grants to fund its pre-development studies and its eventual adaptive re-use. Real Estate has always been a part of my life in that my parents have owned and operated Town & Country Realtors, located in the village of Middle Haddam since 1964. They encouraged me to earn my real estate license and join their firm as an historic building specialist. My goal is to add value to the buying or selling experience by providing historical research and preservation services, while connecting like-minded historic home enthusiasts with their perfect match.
