Since 2007, they have captivated audiences with energetic guitar riffs, rich vocal harmonies, and dynamic stage performances. The band features the dramatic Mike Forgette on guitar, the hunky Tim Moore on drums, the bombastic Gary Dionne on bass, the low-key Adam Clymer on guitar, and the humble Parker Hu on keyboards.

Drawing influence from iconic bands like Yes, Rush, and Jethro Tull, 1974’s sound has been aptly described by the Hartford Advocate as ”a shameless homage to early progressive.” Despite the skillful use of complex time signatures and dramatic riffs, their music is sweetened with layers of catchy melodies, creating a unique blend of rock, pop, and eclectic influences. This fusion sets the band apart, making their music both nostalgic and modern.

In February 2011, the band gained widespread recognition with the release of their album ”1974 & The Battle for the Lazer Fortress.” This sci-fi epic received critical acclaim and was named one of CT.com’s Best CT Albums of 2011. The Hartford Courant praised the album as ”an ambitious effort in concept and musicianship… a consummate album from a young band that is well worth a look.”

Performing at larger venues and festivals, the band continued to expand their audience, consistently earning titles such as ”Best Rock Band” and ”Best Overall Band” at the 2014 and 2015 Connecticut Music Awards. With their grand sci-fi trilogy’s climax scheduled for release in the fall of 2016, 1974 remains a close-knit group of friends and tireless performers, always striving for their next big original project.
