I think it’s high time we check out some of the great fixer-uppers out West, like this $190,000 beauty. The movie set vibe of this facade really gets me – like a scene straight out of an old Western! I swear, any second now John Wayne is going to come walking out that door. Actually, this former Union Hotel in Dayton, Nevada has a connection to two of Hollywood’s most legendary stars, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. Pretty neat, right? Let’s look at just some of the things I love about this little gem of the old frontier.

A SALOON!
This hotel has a saloon. Need I say more? Just make sure you have the (original) bar fully stocked since that “Union Hotel Saloon” sign will surely entice some visitors! There’s even an original cash register to store all your bank notes. And watch out for rowdy guests: the stair railing has a bullet hole in it from an “infamous” saloon fight. Yikes! But, seriously, how wonderful to have those signs out front. I know if I used it as a home I would definitely keep those up for the character alone.
HISTORY REAL & IMAGINED
Dayton has some pretty incredible history. I kind of geeked out and found a site documenting historical markers of Nevada. Oh, the random facts to be had! The free-standing rock wall on this property is the lone reminder of the Overland Stage Station and Pony Express stop. The Union Hotel itself also includes a post office and barber shop. And if that’s not enough, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe’s last ever completed movie, “The Misfits,” was filmed right here in Dayton in 1961!

THE MAGNIFICENT NINE
How cute are the names of the bedrooms? Clearly someone was having some fun, and I sure can’t blame them. My favorite is the “Gov-nor’s-Sweet” – adorable! There are nine rooms total with names ranging from Virginia City Suite to Rag Town Suite (a close second for my attention, by the way). From what I can gather, these names all have to do with early towns in the area. To top it off, there’s even a nice balcony to help you while away the hours.
AN EXTENDED STAY
Built in 1870 after the original hotel across the street burned down, the Union Hotel has over 140 years worth of stories to tell. Who’s ready to be part of the next chapter? The building is located on Main Street, and, according to the listing, thriving restaurants, shops, and bars can be found nearby. Live in the house or turn it back into a hotel. With original furnishings and a classic brick façade to match, everyone and Clint Eastwood will be eager to stop on by!
