About This Old House

Off-marketThe feature home in Country Living Magazine! The phrase-one-of-a-kind is used in real estate quite a bit these days. In most instances, it’s just sales talk. This Victorian Italian Villa Style home is located on the corner of 3rd and Walnut is the exception. Having only 3 owner’s since being built in 1880 by John Johntz, the home is in excellent condition. It is one of few remaining Italianate homes that have a square third story tower along with the original spiral staircase. One of the many interesting footnotes of this home, the 2nd owner Sam Heller was a close personal friend of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Sam maintained the decision for Ike to make his bid for president was made in his backyard. This and many other interesting items led to the home being placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service in 1991. This is truly a one of a kind property!
