Named the Steinmeyer-Sweegan Tenement, this home has a mention in the famous publication The Buildings of Charleston by Jonathan Poston. He says of the house: “John H. Steinmeyer, in partnership with L.T. Potter, bought a large parcel on the north side of Wentworth in 1851 at public auction. The lot on which the house now sits, fronting thirty-one feet on Wentworth Street, was created during a later subdivision. Steinmeyer sold the house in 1860 to Edward F. Sweegan, who probably added the first-floor polygonal bay in the late nineteenth-century. This simple single house has a double-tiered piazza and a flat, parapeted roof with a closed gabled end.”
