About This Old House

“Glasgow” is a 2 1/2 story brick home designed in the Federal style, built some time about 1790-1800. The kitchen wing was moved and subsequently replaced about 1920. The older section of the house retains all the original mouldings and mantels. It was placed on the National Register in 1976.
The house sits on nearly three acres of lawn in a park-like setting a short distance from the Choptank River with numerous large trees and a broad view of the river from the back yard. There is a nineteenth century Greek Revival outbuilding that has been used as an office. It has a fireplace, electric baseboard heating and internet access. The yard also has a useful shed large enough for all needed yard equipment.
Recently planted hedges will provide a degree of privacy as they mature. Other additions since purchasing include horizontal (Venetian) blinds throughout the older section, a centrally-monitored security and fire alarm system, internet/TV cable connection, Invisible Fence and chimney-top dampers. The repainting of the entire exterior has just been completed. There is natural gas availability from a line that runs across the front of the property.
Glasgow was established as a B&B from the late 1980’s until 2014 and has subsequently been open through airbnb for Eagleman and Ironman weekends in Cambridge. It is within easy walking distance from the start of the races and has been very popular with competitors, friends and family.
Cambridge is a small town on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with a long and interesting history having been first settled in 1684. It is frequently listed as one of the best small towns in Maryland. Cambridge is located on the Choptank River, the widest and deepest on the Eastern Shore, host to the Cambridge Classic inboard power boat regatta, Eagleman and Ironman competitions and a number of themed street festivals. It is the home of several fine restaurants, Cambridge Yacht Club, Municipal Yacht Basin, the RaR Brewery and the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort. The town is conveniently located near Easton and St. Michaels, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, and not much farther to Ocean City, Assateague and Chincoteague and the Delaware beaches. Baltimore, Washington, Annapolis and BWI Airport are all within a 1-2 hour drive.
