About This Old House

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and in the Library of Congress Historic American Buildings Survey, Floweree is an imposing brick Italianate townhouse, 2 and 1/2 stories, situated on a leveled terrace overlooking the flood plains of the Mississippi River at Vicksburg. It features wide bracketed eaves, robust frontispieces and heavy segmental arches, a giant portico of paired brick columns with molded capitals. The staircase, with its scrolled step-ends, turned balusters, and octagonal newel, is elegantly detailed. The architectural features and elaborate molding likely crafted by the gifted Bavarians who made their home in Vicksburg during this period. Floweree was named for its original owner, Charles Floweree, a prominent businessman in post bellum Vicksburg, and was ranked as the youngest Colonel in the Confederate Army.

The property consists of the mansion and 3 cottages, gardens and swimming pool. The cottages currently serve as corporate rentals, with rental income of approximately $5700. The entire property could serve as a bed and breakfast and is located in one of the best bed and breakfast districts in the state!
