In 1926, Florida citrus industry veteran JH Mooney had acquired enough personal wealth to build a beautiful and stately brick home for his bride, Mary T McCormick of Kentucky. Built in the “Prairie style” popular in this era, 213 E Concord is a traditional American Foursquare with basement and features gorgeous walnut millwork, presumably milled by Mary’s brothers, who owned a manufacturing plant in the Lexington KY area that made Blue Grass seed strippers.
The house remained in Mary’s care after the passing of JH (around 1943), and she eventually bequeathed the property to her niece-in-law Loretto B Pursley in 1969, also of Kentucky. Every single inhabitant who has lived in this home has lovingly cared for it, as it remains in spectacular condition.
In 2002, the property was bought by a car collector who eventually added a generous 675 sq ft master bedroom suite in the same meticulous detail as the rest of the house. Due to the home’s location in the Lake Eola Heights Historic district, the owner had to have the brick and tile custom made from scratch in order to perfectly match the rest of the home. Nor did he neglect the interior, which features the same deep baseboards and trim work to match the rest of the home, as well as a period-appropriate bathroom with gorgeous tilework and clawfoot tub. The same gentleman added a 3-car garage to the existing 2-car garage/2-BR apartment (864sq ft) structure, as well as updated the kitchen & downstairs bath.
Come see this captivating piece of Orlando’s history today; you will surely fall in love with the many outstanding amenities found in the “JH Mooney” home!
