Rare South Carolina Greek Revival era side-hall plan brick House attached to an equally rare original brick double pen one-story house constructed ca. 1784. William Golightly (1730-1788) purchased this 280-acre tract in 1784 and for almost ¾ of a century the family operated the Golightly Mill, the Golightly Post Office and a grocery at the this location which came to be known as Golightly. His son Reverend David Golightly (1758-1843) added the Greek Revival main house around 1830. Both William and David Golightly served in the South Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. Dr. George Roswell Dean(1844-1911) moved to Spartanburg around 1870 and pioneered agricultural techniques for re-using worn farmland. He is credited with regenerating the planting of cotton in Spartanburg County, in 1886 he was elected to the state legislature, served on the state
